2.2E teardown part 2 - Can these jugs be saved??????
Continuation of this thread:
Part 1 - 2.2E rebuild Ed Hughes came over to help work on the neglected little E engine. This little guy sat unattended for several years and I bought it to try and breath life back into it. We got her stripped of heads, jugs and pistons today. I'd been pumping Kroil and Penetron (Lubemaster product) in for several weeks cuz she was locked solid. Didn't know if we would have to cut off the jugs or not, but luck was on our side. We pounded on the pistons with a 2x4 cut down to 2x3 and a dead blow hammer. Most of the pounding was on the P's in mid stroke, but we did work all of them to get them broken loose. After some serious whacking and rocking the crank with the pulley nut, it freed up and we were able to pull the jugs. Only a couple have serious corrosion - the other 4 visually are pretty clean. Question is, can a jug in this condition be bored and saved? ![]() Here is the P from that C: ![]() Thanks again to Ed Hughes for the help! |

No problemo, it's quite enjoyable:
1. It isn't my motor-so I don't have to sweat any parts or machining. 2. No rush or deadline!

Its hard to tell from here how deep the corrosion is in your bores, but they usually do clean up with a .020 overbore. With a custom set of JE's (using Goetze rings), you should be just fine as long as they are bored properly (we use torque plates) and the new pistons fitted correctly,...... ![]()

Steve - thanks for the reply. I have a line on a set of 2.4 jugs that the seller says are in spec. Question is, can I reuse my 2.2E pistons. Seller says yes. Any thoughts on that combo?

I really couldn't say without measuring your existing pistons for wear in the skirts and ring lands,.. ![]()
