2.4 cis mod/upgrade ?'s
This maybe a little premature but I'm making my list.
I pulled my 2.4 this summer to put an end to pesky leaks. Here is the link: first engine drop What I did: Re- sealed heads replaced oil hard lines in rocker towers upgraded rsr rocker seals new muffler (dansk) beadblasted SSI's advanced timing resurfaced fly wheel/new clutch/new throw out bearing refinished tinware modified cylinder cooling fins replaced all fuel lines new rubber intake sleeves new half-axels etc...... Basically everything except split case. Well, I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the idea of splitting the case. My reason is that after fixing all the leaks(I thought) I still have a two weeps that turn into a drop on the floor about every 10-12 days (very annoying). I think it is coming from the #8 nose bearing (o-ring gone to s...!) and from below flywheel seal. When I took the tranny off it had a band aid from a previous owner. (not the last a previous) I would like to modify the engine a bit. Here are the ideas and questions. Nix the CIS for PMO's Different ignition high reving 2.5 is the idea or 2.8 (single plug for both ideas) What cam is best since it is a 2.4 CIS will I have to chang my heads (fuel injectors bore in head) Will my stock fuel pump be ok. I've read that you can get solid chain tensioners( I do have the pressure fed) I'm a newbie to the engine re-build thing any suggestions would be appreciated. Henry, Grady, JW, and anyone else who has any good ideas. It will not happen overnight but within 24-30 months. I have two children who get first dibs on my time. Thanks for any thoughts, David

You have to make a budget first.
It is probably ok without a rebuild (maybe a top end after oil analysis comes back negative but you want new valve guides.). Goodluck. But I like the 2.5 idea more and more each day too. Regards,

I do understand that a budget is necessary.
Re-build is inevitable with what I'm talking about I feel case needs to be split and re-sealed (check to see if bypass was done, and upgrade oil pump, possible shuffle pin, align bore,etc...) Most modifications are not CIS friendly hence the need for cam change, p&c's, possibly heads(2.2 preferably), etc........ There is a leak coming from the #8 bearing area. Hopefully just the seal, if o-ring case needs to be opened(correct?) My questions will help me create a budget. I don't even know where to start. Excellence says $22k for rebuild I see Supertech selling engines for $8k I'm up in the air. High reving 2.5 sounds nice to me and I would love carbs or MFI. Both would be an option. Just trying to point in the right direction Thanks, David

Option 1: Drop in a 3.0.
Option 2: Get an E cam, any 2.2 P/C's, a complete rebuild kit, and have the heads done. Pick up a set of zeniths and have them set up for the 2.4. Zeniths are pretty cheap because people don't like them simply because they aren't webers. You'll end up with a hi-compression 2.4E engine which I guarantee you will love. That thing will scoot from idle to redline and will drive nice around town and at the track. I would guess this would cost ~$4k installed if you do it all yourself. Basically, Anybody with a 2.2 get E cams and stroke to a 2.4. Anybody with a 2.4 get E cams and 2.2 P/C's. I've had all the 2.2's and 2.4's in one of my cars at some point and the hi-comp 2.4E is my favorite for a street car. At least that's what I would do. ![]()
