questioning backside valve adjustment
Trying to set valves on my rebuild. Using the backside method of adjustment with .0025 and .003 for the gauges. If I set this way then install a dial indicator I get .003 after adjustment. I know this method was developed for a 2.7 is the rocker ratio different for a 3.2 carrera.

Same rocker from at least '72 to '89. Part no. 901 105 043 00.
The rocker ratio does make a difference. The ratio is 1.4 to 1 when the rocker is resting on the base circle of the cam. Simple math. Divide .004" by 1.4 and you get a number between .0025" and .003". Thus the entire premise to the backside method. If the gap is set at .004" at the elephant foot and valve, the gap at the rocker and cam base circle will be between .0025" and .003".

I guess I don't know why it didn't work on mine then. If I did the backside as described then tested with a dial indicator I only had .003 gap. I wound up using the dial on all the valves.
