1977 Turbo ring gear configuration
Just checking whether anyone has an early Turbo apart (1977 or earlier). I am fitting the early Turbo flywheel/clutch combination with my 6 speed G50 that is going into my '89 chassis. To make a long story short, the 6 speed is getting cut down, a la the fitment of a 5 speed G50 in an early chassis and after a fair bit of research, the early Turbo clutch set up seems to be the ticket.
Anyway there is confusion in the ring gear. Some sources (like PET) show the ring gear sandwiched between the flywheel and the pressure plate, yet other sources like Wayne's engine rebuild book state that from 1970 on, all 911's used essentially the same flywheel, or at least the same configuration with the ring gear on top of the pressure plate Looking at the flywheel, there appears to be no place to mount a ring gear as the outer lip would get in the way, while the pressure plate seems to be pretty typically set up for the ring gear to be mounted on top of it and held down by the 9 bolts that retain the whole flywheel/pressure plate combo. Anyone got any definitive information on this? Thanks Dennis
