3.2 Stroke

When porsche increased capacity from 3.0 to 3.2 why did they increase the stroke to do this rather than cylinder diameter? Was it simply so they could get away without twin plugging the 3.2's? or is there another advantage to the longer stroke of the 3.2 crank?

More lower end torque.

They already had the crank dimensions and they also had the rods. The rods are 3.3 turbo rods and the crank is the same stroke.

Cheers

Jeff is right..the 3.2 crank and rods and the 930 3.3 crank and rods are the identical parts (3.3 crank had been around since at least as far back as '78), however the distributor drive gear fitted to the crank was different depending...3.3, Clockwise (CW), 3.2, CCW
