2.2 914-6 motor rebuild

Hello all,
I need a little help.
I finished my BMW 318IS motor rebuild (runs like new)
Now on to finish my 914-6 conversion with a 1971 2.2 911 T motor with webers.
I have read all about the Motormiester thing so (forget them)
I need good advise for pistons, I have plenty of good used cylinders but not enough pistons in std or oversized for a complete set.
I need a good source for the pistons...JE etc?? How big can I bore it??
The new Mahle stuff for 2-2500K is not going to happen sorry I know I can spend way less.
Also I need good advice on cam selection...
I want to use the 2.2 L cause I already have it!!
I bought it complete with all accessories and weber carbs from a guy upgrading about 2 years ago. Found the car to use in Nov. 06.
The car is a 72 914 with a complete welded in cage front to rear, bumper to bumper, 911 turbo front brakes and 911 front end plus rear brakes, full chassis stiffening kit, boxed control arms, bilsteins, full fiberglass wide body kit, vintage Gotti 10" and 8" wheels (I restored them) and no rust it was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Still needs lots of work, I have a side shifter trans with the linkage too.
I did a 914-6 conversion in 97, bought a 2.7 from a guy in Phoenix, I used webers then also. I want to build the motor myself this time. I had problems with low oil pressure in the one I bought "rebuilt" for 3K!! I am an excellent mechanic and I know the 911 motors are a little more involved but I am sure I can handle it.
Your advice is appreciated..Thanks!!

A set of 9.5:1 85mm JE Pistons would suit the build just perfectly. You might be able to get the pistons from Pelican and have a machine shop like Ollies, Competition Engineering, or even Rimco bore and hone your cylinders.

2.2 914-6 rebuild- piston sources??

Thanks for the reply,
I have a call into JE they are pretty close by also.
I will see what they can make for me, most likely custom made though.....85mm 9.5-1 compression.
Is there anybody else who can custom build 911 pistons??
thanks,
Clarkeph

I have also heard of Arias, though not for Porsche. Stick with JE from all that I have read. Money well spent.

2.2 914-6 motor-rebuild camshafts

Thanks for the replys on the piston issue...JE will do fine.
Now what about the camshafts?? I have heard reccomendations on the "S" type cams but I have also heard they are a high rpm type cams. I would prefer a mid range up cam since the car is street legal (sort of has license plates anyhow). I would like to use it for crusin' too. The car has a fiberglass front end, rear quarters and bumper, hood, trunk lid, and doors too, the car is very light. My plans call for putting stock doors on with glass, a top panel (it fits with the cage)
I would still like some low end power too. can my cams be redone?? should I sell them on e-bay or are they junk....1971 911T type cams....
here are some pic's of the car as I got it.

you should be able to grind cams at least once. If they have not been ground before, I would have an 'E' grind based on your needs. 'S' would be fun, but is there reality in converting T cams to S. Buying used ones will be more $$$. You didn't say what size webers you have (assume 40 mm since it is on a T). If you were to have an S profile, you would likely need 46mm.

911 2.2 engine rebuild weber fixes?

Thanks Guys for the advice,
I will go with the custom oversized (large as possible) JE pistons and I may have Crower Cams here in San Diego look at regrinding my stock T cams. Sounds like great advice. The cams, rockers, towers all are in good shape.
The motor was exposed to moisture and got a little water in it.
Bottom end is great, two pistons and cylinders were rusty and the valves have a little rust on them also no big deal there.
Studs are all fine too. I won't mess with them at all.
I bought some extra cylinders on ebay and I have about 10 good 2.2 cylinders and 10-11 pistons but not a good set of 6.

Webers are most likely 40's and one is really good but the other one has a siezed throttle shaft. Anyone know a good weber shop that can rebuild them for me and fix the shaft issue??
what is up with the PMO carb's??

I will order the parts in a couple weeks ago, have a Chevy 383 to finish first.

Thanks
clarkeph
