901/22 motor

I am in between projects and have found a 66 911 that I am thinking of turning into a 911R clone. Has anyone built a 901/22 out of a 901/05 motor? It at least has the aluminum case to start with and instead of the 46 webers has the 40s webers. Thoughts???
Thanks

Speedo

A clean '66 is worth more in unmodified condition.

Certainly it can be done, but you would basically need everything.

906 Pistons 10,3:1
Titanium Rods
46 Webers
906 Cams
Modify heads for twin-plugs
Twin-plug distributor
Increase valve sizes from 39/35 to 46/40 and port from 32/32 to 38mm intake and exhaust
226MM fan with fiberglass shroud
Case windage modifications: knife-edge, boattail, moon cylinders
85mm Aluminum Cylinders (906 style)
Megaphone exhaust

And then you would want to make all the modern updates to the case: oil bypass, squirters, etc.

The car itself would need dual front coolers like the R to control all that heat.

By the time you were finished I would not expect much change from a $40,000 bill and the engine would have a 40-hour life between maintenance rebuilds.

But the sound. . . .that beautiful sound. . . it's only money, right?

911R Clone

Yikes!

Let me emphasize the clone part....as I have a couple extra motors and parts of motors to work with. Frankly, if I had access to all the unobtainium real R motor parts, I don't think I would put them in a motor!

Question rephrased: Short of building a purists R motor with a limited lifespan...what have people built (off a 901/05 case) with longevity in mind for their early 2.0 cars?

Heck, I can easily throw in a 3.0 with carbs and be happy!

Here is my thinking, really the evolution of my thought process, on that very subject.

Suggestions for warmed over 2.0 901/05?
