				Anyone use jetnuts in place of cam tower barrel nuts?
			 
			Just came by some of these on an engine I'm working on...   Is there any issue using these jet nuts as replacement for the cam tower barrel nuts? ...I just hate running out of allen wrench head engagement. The heads are really small compared to standard hex nuts.   | ||

			I see no reason they wouldn't work if they fit the space. I also have never had a problem with the barrel nuts that go there.  -Andy

			since they're a lock nut wouldn't it be impossible to get them torqued to the same value as the rest of the nuts?

			as far as the torque, I guess you could use an inch pound torque wench and see what the dynamic torque is to move them.  However, I don't think it would be much much compared to the 18 ftlbs (if I recall correctly) final torque.

			Consider the method that is used for locking the nut.  There is a hard nut with serations on the "washer" section that bind on to softer aluminium.  In undoing the nut the softer aluminum is disturbed in the opposite direction to that is used for the serations to lock.   Does this create the possibility of small aluminium particals being "dug back" with the removal of the nut? Personally I would not take any risk when there is no problem with the existing method of fixing. Paul | ||

			interesting thought.  i didn't think these were that kind.  some on the motor i'm working on were oblonged a little.   However, there was one, not a jet nut, that had the serations as the locking mechanism like you mentioned on an aluminum bracket.  it took my 3/4" impact wrench to take this 13mm nut off!! yes, lots of alum shavings like you mentioned.

			The nuts that came with my Supertec stud kit were very nice 12-point nuts - head stud length not as critical and installing the bottom row of spark plugs was much easier. Regards, Andrew M
