The heads are not powder coated, I should have mentioned it before posting the pictures. The black treatment is a heat dissipating thin layer of paint to help keep the heads cool. I used various treatments in areas like my piston domes (ceramic coated), dry lube on piston skirts, oil release below pistons, dry lube on wrist pins and I also treated my valve surfaces with ceramic and stems with dry lube film.

Alex

About $14,000. I did all the work tearing it down and rebuilding it. This includes a new turbo, P&C's, new 964 cams, machine work, and some powder coating. All the shipping and small stuff adds up too.

After you buy a set of these everything else is pocket change (because that is all you have left).

Bobs throttles take the cake though.... you should ask him about the rest of the car!! :0

Cheers

When I bought my 70 S Coupe in 1989, the engine was running (well) but had low oil pressure, about 20 psi max, dropping to almost 0 at idle. It was all original with about 115,000 miles at that time.
It was driven for only about one month, then parked in my garage until mid-1995 when I started the rebuild.

All of the MFI was rebuilt by Norbert Eberhart & Gus Pfister
Added new SSI exhaust
Replaced one head and one cam tower
resurfaced 2 cams
New mahle 2,2 S P/Cs
New valves, springs, rockers, shafts, and assoc hardware
New Int. shaft, cam chains, sprockets, ramps, etc
New Carrera tensioners
New flywheel
New Alternator
Bearings & gaskets - all, of course
Machine work on cases for piston squirters, oil relief update
Machine heads
New oil pump
new oil cooler on engine
new oil thermostat, engine
New ignition parts, all except Dist body & Bosch CD
Powder coat air cleaner, all engine tin, rear engine mount plate

So there is virtually nothing old in my engine except the crank, rods, and cases now.

Total cost in 1999 dollars was pretty close to 20 big ones.
It does run like a dream & the original MFI purrs like a kitten. I am happy, but I would hate to have to do the same today...
