				Which half to glue??

In Wayne's book, p. 133, figures 3-22 and 3-23 show the internals of the case halves w/ one half having the sealant applied to it. This half is the one with all the studs in it. It occurs to me that putting the sealant on the half with OUT the case studs would be a lot easier than painting the sealant around 24 or so studs... not to mention faster when time seems to be of the essence. Is there an issue putting it on the other half? I can not think that there is... So is there some assembly trick that makes putting it on the stud side a must do? Didn't I read about someone using a small paint roller to apply sealant with?? Would be hard with all the studs in the way... And the obligatory post-money (I already spent lots) shot: Best regards, Michael

I think the big problem would be handling the other-side with sealant all over it. The side with the oil pump and intermediate shaft needs to be facing up, so if your trying to lift the other side and maneuver it over the lower half while its got sealant all round the edges and trying not to get your hands in the sealer would be a bit of a pain. sealant

You can put the sealant on the 1-2-3 side (without studs) no problem, there are plenty of areas to grab the case as you lower it without disturbing the glue Mike Bruns JBRacing.com

FWIW, If you are using Loctite 574, the sealant does not begin to really cure until the halves are mated - take a reasonable amount of time and don't rush at this stage. Once the halves are together, do get the nuts\washers\through-bolts installed and torqued in a timely manner.

Thanks gents! That is what I thought, but being the first engine build for me I thought I might just ask. Best regards, Michael

Autozone has the trays, usually near the oil supplies. Dion

Autozone!! 8.99! Like dion says, in the oil aisle. I bought 2 I friken' looked all over for bakers trays and finally gave up! These are nice. Very light though so they need something under them if you put heavy things on them. Would not carry a crank on one. Best regards, Michael

Also, I just did this in the last couple of weeks. I did not put any sealant on the journal webs, and my motor is dry as a bone. I only ran a thin bead around the perimiter, and did not smear it to cover the surface. I achieved a beautiful small squeeze-out all the way around with this method. I was very pleased.
