Early engine nirvana
I don't think there's anything more satisfying to the home mechanic than a freshly rebuilt and detailed engine sitting in the garage, waiting to be slotted back into a car.
That, is unless it is two engines.... Yeah, I know, this is what's called "any given morning" at Henry Schmidt's shop, but is a cool moment here at home, so I thought I'd share. And hey, the engine on the stand is actually going into a car in a few days, unlike the poor 2.4 which has been waiting for the '72 to come home for a loooong time now. ![]()

Very nice! How the heck do you guys re-plate the pulley half that's on the fan?

Jon - I think I got into my cadmium plating fetish by looking at pictures of Henry's engines on the internet. The fan on the 2.4 above was refinished by him, actually - he drills out the rivets, plates the center, and bolts the center back to the fan. Everything else golden in the pic was plated in bulk at my local plater.
The engine that is 'vertical' in the pic is a mostly stock 2.7S. Mods are minor and include backdated exhaust, 11 blade fan, and a couple other minor standard cooling mods. I liked the artsy angle of the shot with the engine on the stand in front of the engine on the dolly - but mostly I wanted to show off the cad-plated sump plate. That's the last time it is going to be seen ![]()

Thanks Dave. Looks very nice! I'm sure with that much attention to detail, you'll have a strong runner as well.
