Stripped Cam Conical Nut

I knew this was going to happen. I had a tough time with several of the 8mm conical nuts in the cam housing - that hold the rockers to the cam housing.

The LAST one I went to remove did strip - in the head of the nut. Those things are sooooo shallow.

Any tips as to removing??? This seems like a real bugger. The rocker is #5 - all other rockers have been removed.

I usually hold the 8mm and turn the other side, it's a 5 or 6mm. Remove the oil cooler if necessary.

Oil cooler gone, I thought Wayne's book said not to turn the 5 mm side, it could damage the shaft?

You may have it backwards. Either way, you don't have much choice now. :)

Yea, maybe I do have it backwards! Anyways, I turned the 5 mm and presto, it came out. Thanks!

Yep, never turn the nut, only the bolt.

Glad you got it out!!

What are your plans now for this motor??

Cheers

DC40 cams (you wouldn't happen to have a set? as you sold me your DC20s), Mahle Motorsport Pistons 10.5:1 and 46mm PMOs

Sounds like a cool motor! I don't have any cams here right now, but John can set you up!

Cheers
