Scotch-Brite Pad
Hi, living in the country and in Canada is so much fun when you need to pick up a certain product. Hours and hours looking can produce little results.
I'm trying to find Scotch-brite General Purpose 4747 pads, but so far the closest I've found is Scotch-Brite Multi-Purpose No Scratch Pad. The 3m site says: "Multi-Purpose No Scratch Scour Pads are designed for fast and effective scouring for tough jobs without scratching. Safe for Teflon™, Silverstone™, and Calphalon® non stick cookware." The color is blue. I need to do a small cleanup on my cylinders that have run 200 miles since they were prepped by Henry of Supertec. I don't want to inflict any damage so if these pads are too light then that's okay but if they are too tough then no way do I want to use them. Can someone please confirm???

These sound like very mild abrasive pads if they are safe on teflon pots. I wouldn't be afraid to try them. I bought some extra fine scotch brite pads from the local NAPA autoparts dealer for my cylinder recondition. Anything like this will not harm your cylinders. They would have to be ground into the cylinders for hours to take off any appreciable amount of metal.

Thanks Andy, that's good news to me. It's pretty easy to make a mistake with something like this. I'll keep looking for the 4747 pads but for now I know I can use these in a pinch.

Hi, those are way too mild (in my opinion) for automotive use. I'm in Toronto and you can find Scotch brite or 3m red scuff pads at either Canadian tire or Brafasco. Crappy tire sells them one at a time and Brafasco has a 10 piece min. I tried the green ones and they were useless compared to the Reds. You won't be sorry they're so useful.
