911 SC Cam Timing Specs-Camgrinders Help!
I have been reading Wayne's book and noticed the cam timing specs state the valve lash on #1 and #4 should be set to 0.04" before timing the cams. Is this correct? I always thought the valve lash was at the operating spec of .1mm when timing. Wayne's book states to check Paul Friere's book for timing at the .1mm lash value. That book states cam timing in degrees....got enough tools for now, thank you. Don't want to buy a degree wheel that I'll use once every few years.
![]() Also, what is the best advance to run these cams at in a turbo engine, 1.4mm?

Thanks John, but I'm looking for cam timing specs, not valve lash specs.
In Wayne's 911 Engine Rebuilding book, it states the valve lash should be set at .04" on #1 and #4 before timing the cams.

set lash at .004" or .1mm
It might be a typo in the book (.04")

What type of cam are you trying to time on exactly what type of engine? Camgrinder is right, normally the timing is set with the valves at 0.004" = 0.1 mm lash, but some cams have different specs.
Whatever, your timing will be much more accurate if you use a degree disk and properly set it to TDC. Those pulley marks can lie. |

Thanks everyone. It appears it may be a typo. In one place in the appendix it states .004" and in the second column it states 0.04".
BTW, the dial Z1 mark appears to be spot on. I used a dial indicator on #1 and verified it was on the mark exactly.
