Estimate of converting a 3.2 to twin plug ignition.
I am converting my 3.2 to 3.4 or 3.5. I need to figure in the cost of the twin plug ignition system. I think I will go with the 964 distributor setup. Please give rough estimate on cost and a good source for purchase.

Mark:
We've done a lot of these conversions so perhaps I can help. :) :) Here's what you will need for a Motronic car: 1) 3.6 distributor. (install new belt and vent kit before use) 2) Motronic splitter unit. 3) Extra coil. 4) Plug wire harnesses. 5) Machine heads and lower valve covers, of course. 6) 6 plug wire hold-down clips for the lower plugs. 7) Custom chip for twin-plug operation. (Steve Wong is THE man for those) If you have the engine apart, I'd suggest that you install the 3.6 crank gear, as well. |

Steve, Could you please elaborate on the above a bit more? What's the rationale in doing this? |
Hi Kevin:
The 3.6 engine distributor crank gear has a slightly different pitch than earlier CW-rotation ones do and this makes for quieter operation as well as extended life. These are not expensive ($56) and if the case is apart and the 3.6 dual-distributor is to be used, I'd recommend changing that gear to the 3.6 one. |
I don’t suppose you can just swap dizzy gears?
|
You can certainly do that if you have the correct one at hand. Porsche doesn't sell them,....... :)

How much money?
Can anyone give me a rough dollar estimate? Please!
