Anyone used Weltmeister Hydra-stops.

I have seen these advertised - has anyone used them - what do they actually do ?

They are simple spacers that clamp onto the tensioner shaft and act as a mechanical stop to prevent total tensioner collapse if a tensioner fails.

Plenty in use and they do work. Pelican carries them.

Is there anyway to tell when they work? Could you have a failed tensioner and never know it? I did the internal mod to mine

They worked for me.

Back before they invented the tensioner upgrade I used them and they saved my engine on a 77 930. When the tensioner failed you could hear a noticable chain noise, however the hydra stops prevented total collapse of the tensioner. Really cheap insurance if running the original tensioners.

I made and installed the "internal" type also. I call them "Jerry Woods slugs". Turns out there is a bushing at Orchard Supply I think it is a 5/8" bushing made from brass. The OD of these fits perfect in the ID of the tensioner. Cut off a piece and sand down. I went with about a 1.5mm clearance. So far so good.
