Shuffle Pins

I am interested to know what everyone thinks about shuffle pins in Aluminium Cases.

Wayne's book suggests that it isn't a good idea for late SC cases but here in UK it is still relatively common practice.

What about early 2.0 litre sand cast cases and the 3.0 litre case from the Carrera 3?

Also whilst on the subject, does anyone have any thoughts about boat tailing on these cases and also is it safe to carry out this mod on magnesium cases?

Thanks for any comments

Hi Chris:

We do not shuffle pin aluminum cases unless one will see 95+ BHP/litre. Above that, its a good idea.

As far as I'm concerned, any mag case used for a racing engine should be shuffle-pinned. I do not boattail magnesium cases since these things need ALL the stiffness they can get. Although one leaves some HP on table by not doing so, it seems counterintuitive to remove material when I am shuffle-pinning for rigidity,...

Hope this helps,
