Newbie Question 1989 Carrera 4
Has anyone put a turbo in a 1989 Carrera 4?
|
Are you thinking about going rallying? Or do you just want to do Rennsport III in style? :)
The motor would need to be rebuilt, and in doing that and sourcing/installing a kit (single or TT) including tuning requires you are a PCar wiz or spend some money. You could buy a turbo and be done. First rule is always to set a budget from the start. Its a sweet car either way, turbo or not. |
I advise is to sell you normally aspirated engine ($5.5-$6.8K) and buy a turbo engine.
Which turbo engine you buy will be determined by your budget and only your budget. Almost anything you want (78-89 3.3, 91-92 3.3 C2 turbo, 94-95 993 3.6 single turbo or the 996 twin turbo) can be installed in your chassis. There are also many tuners in the Porsche world that can build monster turbo engines to fit your project. For my money I would go with a 996 twin turbo. They are out there for around $17K. Plan on another $3K-$5K for installation. |

Henry, where would you mount the rads? |
Oil cooler in the right front fender and water (ick !) radiator in the left front fender.

I would think the turbo from this year might work
91-92 3.3 C2 turbo any info or pics of the mounting of the rads? |
I mean I can do a turbo swap in a vw 16valve and switch out the bottom to a bigger block ..blah blah blah...(dont laugh at me) im no master mech. but I am not sure whats involved going from air to water..
|
I would install a supercharger.
