Max Moritz Pistons - What CAMS can I use
A friend of mine has got a set of Max Moritz Pistons for me, i want to take my 3.0 SC to a 3.2.
Now I was wanting to know what options do I have with regard to cam selection. I'm intending to use PMO 40mm carbs I was thinking of going 60 or 80 grind but not sure if these are too exteme for the MM pistons. I'd rather not machine the pistons as the compression is 9.3:1 I'd prefer it to stay there. If some one can guide me I greatly apprciate it. Matt

if your pistons look like mine i am using DC 62 cams (same as ge60 basically) i had no problem with clearence, these are 9.5:1 CR pistons. i'm not sure if they are Max Moritz type but they are 98mm mahles. i think actual Max Moritz pistons are a wedge type that have much less valve clearence, i may be wrong however. i've found that the pistons with the valve pockets that meet in the middle of the dome are 10.2:1 CR pistons.

You are probably looking at a 964, web20/21 or DC20 ish grind cam then. I would contact Camgrinder on this forum or at www.drcamshafts.com to get a more specific idea. John grinds all my cams as well as many others on the forum.
The limiting factor will be your pistons, not your choice of induction. Cheers

If they are a CIS style piston then send them to Henry at Supertec and have pockets milled in the crown. THen you can use just about any cam you want. It will be worth the effort with carbs.

Not sure how much lower than 9.3 CR you would want. I think Henry posted about how much the CR was lowered with machining, but I can't remember the spec.
Cheers
