Mix and match crankshafts
I have a 79 930 that I am currently rebuilding after a rod bearing failure.
I have my hands on an 86 911 crank that I was going to use. I see that the oil holes in the later crank are much larger than those in the 79. I had thought about using the case from the 86 but bagged the idea since the case would not match the car. Is it ok to use the later crank in the earlier case. Thanks Ed |

Ed, the 3,2 crank has a stroke of 74,4mm vs. the 70,4mm of the 3,0 crank. As a result, they use different rods.
Most guys go the other way, short stroke crank from a 3,0 with larger pistons for a "Short Stroke 3,2." More from our host here: Quick FAQ 3.0/3.2 upgrades to 3.2/3.4

I thought the 930 3.3 and the Carrera 3.2 crank were identical?

The 930 Turbo crank and the Carrera crank are identical accept for the flywheel locator pin in the Carrera.
The large oiling holes are a attempt to remedy the rod bearing failures associated with the 74.4 crank.
