Damaged half a main bearing shell

OK, stupid mistake.

I am assembling my bottom end. I was rotating the crank with the oil pump to check backlash and then to make sure everything was smooth before mating the case halves. One of the bearing shells (#7) beneath the crank turned also, and I didn't notice.

I placed the case halves together and started tapping them together. I was using a rubber mallet and they just weren't seating well on the nose end. I gave up, pulled the halves apart to check what was going on, and saw the mistake -- the two bearing halves for #7 were slightly overlapping.

The bearing seat in the case looks OK. The bearing shell itself got slightly crushed, but definitely deformed, and I can feel the damage with my finger. I definitely need to replace these bearings. Crap, and I was going to try and get a lot done on the motor this weekend.

Does anyone have a loose std/std. pair of main bearing shells for a '87 Carrera that they could sell me by themselves? Beats having to pay $200 for an entire set of new mains, and Pelican lists the part (930.101.132.15) as "special order only.

After feeling mad and stupid for awhile, I then got to enjoy the task of cleaning all the 1194 and loctite off the case half again.

If you have an old bearing from when you took the engine apart you could use it. The other option would be to try to just buy one new bearing. Some racers use the old bearings on pupose to have a little more clearance for less drag and more HP.

Crap, too late, I ordered a full set Monday morning.

Anyone need most of a set of 911 main bearings?
