2.7L engine

Hi,

There is a 82 911SC with a seized engine that I want to buy. My question is, can I put in a 2.7L engine in this and if so, how much would it cost me and what are the potential problems if any?

I personally have no experience with Porsche engines and the 2.7L engine is a rebuilt engine?

Hi HB,

Limited experience here so just one mans opinion really but putting a 2.7 in an SC really goes against the grain in most ways. The 3.0 in general is cheaper to rebuild than the 2.7 and has a few other things going for it. i would think the best option would be to either go with rebuilding the 3.0 or consider swapping for a 3.2.

Unless the 2.7 is a guaranteed good runner with low miles, you are just going to end up with a rebuild on your hands anyway. I agree with the above comments. If you can afford to rebuild the 3 liter, it is the smart move.

Agree with guys. i used to run a 76 CIS with a 2.7 lump and replaced with a carrera 3 3ltr (200bhp) there was no comparison in terms of fun and drivability, generally much better to at least open up the 3ltr and see whats the problem,if terminal then a replacement 3ltr is a much more robust and reliable bet, the basis is essentially the same as the original 3 ltr turbo so its just a much less stressed lump and you can get 220 to 230 hp relatively easily particularly on a rebuild.

I definitely wouldn't go to a 2.7 and would feel the same about the 3.2. There's no better motor for your car than the 3.0!
