My choice of engines is a moving target...

I gave up on a 2.8 due to the pricing/unavailability of certain components. Looking around the shop and seeing a couple 2.7 engines and a 2.4E engine...I thought a 2.7 RS motor would be the call. After talking with a friend, I am now considering building a 2.7 E motor for the more generous torque curve. This will be a street motor that I will build up using a 7R case for starters. I have most of the parts with the exception of the pistons....and thats where I am stumped. I have been hearing increasing discontent with JE piston users. Suggestions as to what to use? Anybody built one of these before?

Suggestions appreciated!

A 2.7RS already has a generous torque curve. The ports are the same size as a 2.4S. The cams and the injection are identacle as well. I personally wouldn't do anything less than the RS.

The limited problems discussed with the JEs seem to be with particular forgings/configurations in the larger bore sizes to which JE is coming out with new Porsche forgings. I myself have never seen a JE have a problem, but then again the dynamics of the 2618 forging in combination with a Nickies cylinder is very different than the same piston in a Mahle cylinder - I truely think some of the problems have stemmed from running the 2618 piston too tight in a mahle cylinder, which is really truely best suited to a 4032 forging alloy which is closer in expansion to the mahle piston alloy.
