Just a few pics of what I have been doing. Hope you enjoy for the holidays.
Specs:
7R case
alignment sleeves
carrera oil pump
ported
HP valve job
HP springs and titanium retainers
ARP rod bolts
ARP head studs
JE 10.5:1 pistons
S cams

Waiting for my carbon fiber shroud. This one fell off my workbench, went crunch.
Carefully smoothed and blended the intake track.

Thanks guys. I don't know how some people get pics to show so much detail. I just got a new camera and it helps but it still ain't quite right. Here are a few more of the inside of this thing.

Just another day @ Supertec...Henry isn't joking.....when I went by a couple of months ago to pick up some parts, there were number of beautiful engines in the shop in various stages of completion.

Henry does build some nice engines - That "3.5 Twin Plug MFI Street Engine" is mine

Hey Ed - Tell me more about the pieces you have one top of the stacks, under the filter plates, with the braided line running between them? Is that to replace the cold start injectors?

That is like superhuman then you blew it for me showing the internals.

No seriously - nice trick little piece there! Lots of intricate work is evident. Is the MFI trick, what did they do to it?

Henry bailed me out a few times and inspired me with his engine pics. BTW my pics are final preassembly, I will post finals in a few weeks.

jbell959 - that plate was my idea I had been kicking around for some time that serves two purposes. First it spaces the filter base up away from the MFI pump and fuel lines. I did have to make a narrow eyebrow notch on the left base to clear the Barometric sensor. The second is the cold start system. I sent the bar stock and crude drawings to Mike Bruns and he did the machine work. Had enough stock to do four plates so I have two extras. I did not want to drill the mag stacks and I did not know of Henry's cold start mod at the time. The nice part of this is that it can be returned to completely stock in about 1 hour. They work well as I tested them on the tired 2.2S in the background. The sound of the Hi Po exhaust and six throats singing at full throttle is unreal.

I have learned a lot since I built the 2.2S over 100,000 miles ago. I only had Bruce Anderson's book and no web support. This forum is great.

That is Jeff Alton's stretch guage, Gus did the pump to 2.7RS specs, Ted Robinson @ German precision did the machine work, and Mike Bruns @ JB racing did the plates, alignment sleeves and distributor. Many members if this forum kicked in with misc parts and advice some without knowing by just posting their knowledge. I started in early 2004 collecting parts, I just wish I had known of this forum before I went to the point of no return. I would have gone with large displacement 3.5 perhaps and aluminum case.

I plan on Chassis dynoing this thing "with" the velocity stacks and without. The stacks are 2.25" tall and the filters are 3.25" or 3.5" I am not at home right now. Some have written that K&Ns are less efficient than stock due to the proximity of the stack to the top filter cover that cause a restriction or other disruption of the air flow. TWM makes a 12mm stack and a 35mm stack. Any of you engineer types with knowledge of this set us straight please. I may need to make this discussion a separate post.

Funny you should use the word "hobbyist". One more year of showing no income and Supertec will be labeled "hobby" by the IRS.

It's a dream come true. Having a hobby and a job all in one. If it wasn't for Holdem, I would be living on savings.

As a CPA giving nonbinding advice, you can fall back on business intent (you intend to be a for profit business) because we sure as hell don't want you to stop what you are doing.

Ed - Very cool... I really like what you did with those plates. I went with Henry's mod and eliminated the cold start injectors on both my MFI engines.

... and +1 for Henry continuing to build these great engines... I still have more projects in my head

Henry,

I here you! As long as there is food on the table it is all good though!

I sincerely hope you are kidding about the lack of profit, or are in a position to only treat like a hobby.

All the best!

Cheers

Henry,

It is not a hobby when you have six engines sitting there in all their beauty. If you were to call it art work it might be a hobby, but you have some serious Porsche hardware coming out of your shop. If the "service" comes calling, I would be willing to fly out to have a chat with them just so I could see all the "art work".

BTW: I finally found a use for those blue case through-bolt o-rings. I put them on the lower wires just above the boot at the distributor to indicate the bottom plugs. Blue=bottom. I used the Moroso numbered shrink sleeves to number the wires but it gets real confusing after while. I will try to take a better photo when I post final pics.

Thanks you all for your concern. We'll be fine. Since moving to Fallbrook Supertec has been about the art of Porsche engine building and not the profit.
The fastest way to go broke in business is to get an ever increasing percentage of an ever decreasing market. I knew this going in. None of us, be it Aaron, Ken, Bernard or myself concider this a great living just a great love.
All of us could make more money delivering the mail or managing a "Burger World".

Let's get back to the Gratuitous pics.

BTW: Cool idea with the blue o-rings.
