930 disassembly question
Am tearing down my 1986 3.3 Turbo Engine. I am trying to remove the intake manifold, but am having a strange problem. There are two studs with 13mm nuts for each intake runner, and all 12 nuts have been removed. I can't seem to get the manifold to break completely free (Although it is loose)
It looks like one stud is somehow "frozen" internally in the intake runner. The manifold seems loose everywhere but at this particular stud. I have tried levering it off, etc, but no luck. Is there any chance that there is somehow another hold down for the manifold that I just am overlooking? Help |

Nope. Just clips, wires, and the studs. The 3.3 has long intake studs , they go all the way through to the head. Take your time, make abs sure you have the stud and/or all nuts off. Don't lever too hard

Every 930 plenum I have ever removed sucked @$$- Just soak the studs/holes in Pb blaster and like YT says make sure everything else is loose. Try rocking it back and forth (gentally) and pulling up at the same time.

Good advice. I ended up with one stud that was completely stuck internally in the intake plenum, and was able to lever it up enough to cut the stud in half. The plenum finally released.
Now all I have to worry about is the broken intake valve and the many pieces of associated piston that self destructed when valve and piston crashed into one another! |

The studs tend to corrode and swell inside the intake stud bores. PB Blaster or Kroil soak for 1/2 a day will soften the crud and will allow the intake to be easily removed.
