Introducing......MY new longblock!

Well, after a couple of slow days where I seemed to be fighting little crap, and not making much progress, I got the longblock done today.

When I say little stuff, I mean crap like getting my 5/8" OD Bronze bushing for the tensioner safety collars home to find it was a little flattened. I go back to Lowes thinking I hoped they restocked, as I'd gotten the last one the other day. Well, of course not! So, off to Home Depot-where they asked me what the 1/2" ID X 5/8" OD Bronze bushing was going in. I couldn't find any in the store, so I ended up buying a couple of copper 1/2" street ells, and cut off the legs that were 1/2" ID. They worked perfect inside the tensioners for the fail-safe collars.

I was also screwing around yesterday with the timing on my RH cam, shoulda left well enough alone, and screwed up my timing pin (long/stupid story). I tried to get one locally, but no such luck on Friday after T-day. Ended up making one out of a Grade 8 6MM hex head....then, I got the rockers in yesterday and adjusted the valves too.

Today, I got the p-tensioners in, modified the RH chain case for the lower #4 plug, and got the chain covers and valve covers on, the oil cooler on, and my distributor timed to #1 (famous last words, I know, but I think I'm good). I hereby retire my tube of Assembly Lube.

Last, but not least, my finishing touch on the fan housing strap:

I like it! Very, very nice work you have done. How long has it taken you to get to this point?

Impressive.

I started tearing down in April.....some parts were off for machining for 3 months, started the build portion in September, but I had some weeks when I was travelling and got nothing done. I literally cannot see how I would've been able to do this in under 4-5 months at the best. I'm probably in the average timespan, I think.

Ed, here is what you have to look forward to... This is my drive today breaking in the 3.4 some more. Temp outside was 4C, intake airtemp was 6C. Gotta love those 911's..... Good day for a drive, wound her to 6500 a couple of times, only another 1000rpm or so to go!!

This will be you in no time!!!

Cheers

Jeff, I'm glad to see you're putting miles on her! Keep 'em piling on, I want to hear about your tuning process as you dial in all of that power. Thanks for the motivation, I can't wait to be behind the wheel again.

4C, that's about what we have here in Dallas this weekend. Went to the Cowboys game on Thursday, and we had snow flurries coming in thru the open roof of the stadium. Now, it's just cold and wet, low 40'sF max...

Yikes, that is cold for down there isn't it??

I passed on a PCA drive this morning because it was -2C!

I will keep folks updated to the tuning process once we go back to the dyno, right now all that is dialed in is the WOT and deccel AFR's. Idle and part throttle are still very rich. But it runs well with no stubles or hestitions.

Enough OT,

Your motor is looking great, can't wait to see the finished product!!

Cheers

Got my cam oil lines on today, as well as the motor mount and the engine bar. Then, I cleaned up intake parts for assembly.

Ed, looks great!

The ground wire for the alternator goes on the rearmost stud, it's longer for this purpose.

John, that's where mine was anchored originally. I'll have to look, but I don't think it's long enough to go to the back stud-seemed like it was the right length. But, I'll check, thanks.

Wow, fantastic work. I'm impressed and jealous.

I look forward to this right of passage - the Pcar engine rebuild.

Thanks wj. I've come across a big hurdle this week-the Flu! So, progress has been nil, and I'd hoped to maybe look at putting her in this weekend. Oh well...
