Cam Housing oil plug

I noticed some type of sealant on the cam housing plug for the oil squiters when I was cleaning it today. It is not on any other plugs. Do you think this is a factory sealant they put on to keep the plug from leaking? Or someone put it on there at some point? Not sure whether to reseal it with light coat of JB weld or not. Squiters do work fine.

Thanks,

Lou

Might not hurt to lightly peen around the plug once the old sealant is off. Then some JB weld just in case.

Porsche did not give that plug any external sealant. I'm guessing someone removed the plug (which destroys it) to remove and clean the squirter tube. Then bought or made a new plug, forced it in, but didn't trust his work. The trick thing here is a 1/8" (or is that too big? A very small one) pipe plug. That way you can clean the squirter any time you have the cam carrier off for whatever reason without the fuss.

But it won't hurt anything if you smear it with JB weld, but keep it super thin where the gasket goes, or keep it off that surface altogether.

To tap for 1/8"NPT you have to remove the spray bar and tap it deep enough so the plug sits flush, because of the taper thread.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and took off the old sealant then applied a thin coat of JB weld. Thanks again.

Lou
