Im wondering what a Long block 2.7 is going for these days.. Unknown history said to be running some time ago. Has Oil pressure line update, webers, 11 blade altenator,
How can I tell by the Engine # as to if it is an S engine or not.. I.E. 6 1 4 1111 6 = 6 cyl the 1 would be a T motor 150 HP and ANY other number between 2-5 in this spot would be an S 175HP? 4 = production Year. What Cams came in these 2.7's? Seeing that it now has Webers and that it would normally have MFI.. What would have been changed to accomplish this? What should I LOOK OUT FOR?

engine
If you look at the horizontal surface to the right of the engine number there should be some additional number. These numbers identify the model of the engine. For example, look at this picture:
![]() Besides decoding the engine serial number, the number "911/83" identifies this engine case as being from a 2.7 Carrera RS. |

911/83 was just the designation used by Porsche to identify the 2.7 mechanical injected engine that was installed in the 1973 European Carrera RS. The U.S. version of this car would have a different number. I don't have the code book but the early 911's had a 901/ prefix, the later 3.0 liter turbo's and SC's had a 930/ prefix. There is a red book that you can buy fairly inexpensively that decodes all of these numbers.

After looking it over I have a 646xxxx and a 911/82
This tells me that its a 76 US 911 S and that it would have 165 HP Is this correct? How good are these engines in comparison to what I have in my car. Im running a recently rebuilt 2.4 T with hotter cams but Not E, Webers, and a little more compression. I would say my car has about 150 HP, but thats not been determined. How bad can water damage the internals of an engine? When I looked down the carbs I saw water. What can be done to this type of 2.7?

911/82 Is a 1976 911S with CIS Injection 165hp. Yours being carbed who knows what else was done (cams, pistons, etc.) if anything.
The water can be real bad! Was the water rusty? How long was it in there? Do the carbs open freely? Were any valves open? Does the engine turn? The top end needs to come apart to really know the damage and to see what you have as far as cams, pistons, etc.

The value really depends on condition. A core 2.7 of unknown condition is probably only worth 1500 dollars. The carbs could be worth anywhere from 500 to 1500 dollars depending again on condition.

Yah.. I was thinking what you guys confirmed. Im concerned about the Water as well. The carbs are Frozen up as well.. so, its a big Chance to me..
The water wasnt rusty, but Im not sure how long it was in there. It would need to be opened up. What could I tell from just opening the Valve Cover?

Apologies for butting in/hijacking...
Mine is a '77 2.7 # 6371420 which I know is ROW. I am not clear on why they put the other # on, or what it means. On mine it's 911/81 |
