Thoughts on this engine stand yoke
I will be starting on my 911 engine rebuild soon and was looking for an engine yoke. Saw this one on eBay for $89...
Any thoughts/experience with this item?

I have a 2 arm stand for my 356 motor from VW Alley, and a couple of motor dollys. All their stuff is made in the USA in-house, and is solid. While I haven't used this particular yoke myself, I would not be afraid to do so from my previous experience with them.

I also bought the 2 arm VW stand from him. It says not to put anything bigger that a VW engine on it, but I haven't put anything other than a Porsche 6cyl on it. It's scary and I support the pulley end of the engine with a 4X4 until it's stripped down.
Good quality stand, great price, but I wish that I'd bought the one that you're looking at. The seller's a good guy. |

I bought one, it is well built and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for almost any 911 motor. Maybe not a full on turbo with all components attached, but it is certainly sturdy enough for any NA motor. You do need to fit it to your stand as they weld some dimples on it that need to be ground down until it will slip in.

I just bought the $69 three spoke yoke. On it's way - reading the descriptions these things are beefy and the four spoke should at least match the five spoke model that is recommended. I figured for my 2.7 the three spoke would be adequate. Turns out these are made in the hills above Chico CA - very close to me. I'lll update if my opinion changes.

My Yoke arrived today - I got the 3 vs the four spoke model. It came with a heavy guage adapter sleeve to adapt it to the engine stand which has six spot welds on its exterior. I ground those down a bit too much to give the adapter sleeve a tight fit in the engine stand pipe. I next drilled four 9/24" holes at 90 degrees through the smaller pipe on the yoke itself.
The yolk came with one M12? bolt, a nut and a standoff sleeve. Not two sets. The instructions recommend attaching to the left engine half. This seems to be because there is more room over there without the engine cooler. In fact the mounting ring would not sit flush it it were mounted against the cooler. The fit on the left side was perfect. Pictures of the yoke in Waynes book show a two level mounting plate that keeps it away from the oil cooler. Using the oil cooler side is best to facilitate dealing with the oil pump on the still attached half. More opinions once I put it up on the stand.
