3.0 going to with euro 9.8'S what hp gain

Hey fellow Porsche enthusiasts

I had Jerry Woods in Campbell do my 78 3.0 two years ago, split the case and did the heads, 964 cams, SSi, but I had a set of pistons re-ringed because the cost was getting to high (9.3"s), On the dyno run I achieved 210 engine HP.

I been saving and now I was thinking of going Euro 9.8s aluminum flywheel and maybe Burch headers, I have the dansk two in two out sport muffler (shin kickers)

What Hp gain could I see with this these modifications? The car is not my primary driver and the suspension very upgraded.

P.S could the 3.2 conversion be better? I have stock rod bolts and rods.

Thanks,

Carrera1975

I'd guess about 5 HP. 98mm pistons will give much more (probably around 15).

You may have to wait an indefinite amount of time to get your 9.8/1 Euro pistons. The word is that no one has any at all in stock, and Mahle has not scheduled when they will make more. Supposedly they will make them, but can't say just when. Just because they show up in someone's catalog doesn't mean the vendor actually has any.

+1 on 9.8/1 pistons being hard to find!!

I want to do the same upgrade!

Consider this; For Model years '80-'83

Euro RoW 3.0 had min 204 hp @9.8:1 cr

compared to the USA,Canada and Japan 3.0L @ 180 hp @ 9.3:1cr

Cheap HP in my book IF you can find them!!

The 9.8 pistons have very little to do with the improved power of the Euro engine. Contrary to most sources the Euro had big ports and larger intake runners as well as different cam timing and no Cat. There are several calculators on the web that will tell you what power increase you can expect from a compression increase. The results are underwhelming. I have been contemplating putting 9.8 pistons in my race car (if I can find them). Our class is limited to 91 octane pump gas and I'm not sure that I can get more power with them than with the 9.3 pistons I have now. With the 9.3 pistons and a slightly rich mixture I can run more ignition advance than I could safely run with the 9.8 pistons.
