Piston to Valve Clearances?

Hi Guy's,

A question came to mind while reading Wayne's rebuild book, how common is it to have piston to valve clearance issues when using new JE pistons with existing cylinders, granted if the cylinders are still usable? I want to use the 3.0SC configuration Wayne had listed in his book. Any thoughts on what to look out for using this set up? Thanks in advance...

It all depends who orders the pistons and what valve pocket size and depth they were set up with. I've never used one of JE's "catalog" off the shelf pistons for the 911, so I can't comment on what their default is. If your pistons have a job number etched into the wrist pin boss area, you can call JE up and find out what the pocket depth is - then you can check with Camgrinder if he's doing your cams as to what amount of pocket you need to have the .060-.080" piston to valve clearance desired.
