Wierd Problem
:(I now have my 2.4 rebuilt engine back in the car and am waiting for carbs and manifolds. I thought I would fill the engine with oil (9qts.) and turn it over to confirm oil pressure. No pressure. I got underneath and had a pinhole in the case bottom leaking some oil. Realizing I had to fix this, I removed the drain plug to drain the oil. NO OIL DRAINED FROM THE CRANKCASE. I removed the return oil line at the case back to the tank and no oil. Removed the spray bar supply line at the cam tower, no oil. I do notice some seepage from the lower valve cover(s). I did not have time to pursue it very long last night and will be back at it tonight. What could be the problem? Bad/plugged oil cooler?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Dana |
For whatever reason, when you put oil in the oil tank, it didn't flow through the S-hose into the engine.
So I would start with the S-hose and work from there. |
Would the tank hold all that oil? The dipstick shows a level of about 1.75"?

If there is no oil in the case, where do you think it went?
|
Did you plug the oil cooler with a rag or paper towel when you pulled the motor?
|
Jon,
I woke up last night trying to remember that very same thing. I have oil at the S line and the cooler connection so I feel the cooler is the next thing to eliminate. Dana |
The cooler has a straight flow-through to the crankcase from the S-hose
