Transaxle gasket replacement?
If my transaxle gaskets are dripping, can I just pull the gear cluster, replace the gaskets and reinstall the gear set? Do I need any special tools or jig if I'm not disturbing the gears?
Thanks, Andrew M

Which transmission do you have? On a 901 the gasket between the intermediate plate and the body of the transmission is what sets the pinion depth. A transmission gasket set includes extra gaskets of different thicknesses so you can replace the old gaskets with new gaskets of the same thickness to maintain the pinion depth, so you'll need a caliper or a micrometer to measure the old gasket(s) in an uncompressed area so that you can match the thickness. You may use 1 or 2 gaskets to achieve the proper thickness. On a 901, I can't think of any other special tools, just make sure that you remove the fill plug before you remove the drain plug.

Thanks - This is a 911/01 transaxle -similar to the 901, but for the 70-71 911 models.
Regards, Andrew M

I group the 901, 911, and 914 trannys together and call them all 901's VS 915's or G50's.
Everything I said applies to all three 901's. |
