Quick master link timing chain question
Real quick- The master link chain I received from PP has 2 link pieces- one fits in the center of the chain, the other is the "loose" outboard piece. One is copper/bronze colored, one is silver. Do the colors mean anything or can I use either in either place?
Thanks Dave

I believe that is has something to do with the rotation direction when using the master links. You should be able to see one of the colors, if the rotation direction is correct. I just can't remember which it is. Hopefully others will chime in that have used them more recently to get it right.

I used the same chain for my rebuild. Since the link was symmetrical, I think it does not matter. I put the copper piece on cylinder side, because the link will be easier to open with the little clips put on the outside. I am interested to have confirmation on this too, before the engine goes back in the car...

Remember to put the locking 'U'-piece in the right direction, the bottom of the U in the direction of travel so it can't be knocked of.

I have placed the copper side toward the cylinders as well. The pieces I am interested in are the two loose link pieces- one is silver, one is bronze colored. They appear to be the same, but must be different for some reason since both chains came packed the same way with one of each.
The retainer has been replaced with two e-clips so orientation is not an issue. Still looking for help w/my original question. Thanks for looking!!! Dave
