carbs on a CIS 2.7??

Hello All

1st post so go easy on me, I did search ( I also bought Wayne's book)

I have a 914-6 with the original 2.0 motor that runs decent but has never been opened up. It has about 100k on it so you can imagine it needs tensioners, chain guides, probably a valve job etc...

Not wanting to dump a bunch of money into a 2.0 or modify a original 2.0 motor I scored a 911/52 motor (2.4 MFI) on craigs list for $100 a few months ago. I am slowly rebuilding this motor to be my "vintage pretty" MFI motor.

Not being terribly patient and wanting to drive this year at a few track events I found a decent deal on 911/92 (150HP 2.7 CIS 50 state motor) The owner had pulled the motor to put in a 3.2. Tired of the oil leaks.

So since I am putting most of my effort ($$$$) into the 2.4 I want to affordable prep the 2.7 for my 914/6. I am going to use my weber carbs from the 2.0 (sell the CIS) and change the seals, adjust valves, etc.. The P/O said it was a good runner. It was rebuilt in S.F. in 79 (have receipt) and has about 30K on it since.

So finally my questions?

What is the 2.7 gonna run like with carbs and CIS cams? Is there a cam that would work better or will they all cause interference with the CIS pistons?

I think my 2.0 flywheel/clutch will bolt up correct? (In a 914-6 901)

Any Weber jet recommendations or should I just call PMO with the Credit Card?

The motor did not come with the Bosch Igniter box. Can I use the one from the 2.4 motor or the one from my 2.0?

Thank for your replies

John Daron

My baby!

Don't know much... but I'm pretty sure that's a yes for the flywheel (I hope so, or I'll be in the market for a new one too).

If the Webers don't have worn throttle shafts & bushings, they will run fine with the right jetting package. You can use an SC-grind cam for a bit more power.

Yessir, it will, but make certain its in excellent condition since a 2.7 makes a LOT more torque than your 2.0

One needs a lot more information to offer specific jetting recomendations,..

Either one works fine,......

Steve is correct, jetting can be a mysrterious adventure but this jetting for a stock CIS 2.7 with 40mm Webers is close.
32 Venturies
135 Mains
180 Air correction
60 Idle
F26 Emulsion tubes

If you plan to take the 2.7 apart, I highly reccommend 2.7 RS pistons and Solex cams. I have had many engines in my six over the years and the Solex cammed, 2.7 RS spec is by far the most enjoyable.
The MFI 2.4S was quicker but not nearly as easy to drive.

Henry and Steve, many thanks for the advice. Exactly what i needed.

Henry I am "trying" to stay low budget on this CIS 2.7 and save my $$ for the 911/52 MFI 2.4 I am building.

So I am hoping not to crack open the CIS 2.7. It sounds like the limited cam choices for a CIS motor dont offer much gain.

BTW

Henry I sent you a email a few weeks ago on getting a quote on the case/crank work for my 2.4. I plan on doing the 2.7 RS/MFI route as you suggest on that motor. Should I call instead?

thanks Daron

Hi Daron
I get over 200 email a day and at times it's overwhelming. It is easy for me to miss important requests and even parts orders.
A phone call can quite often alert me to email I might otherwise miss.
Try emailing again or call if you'd like.
