964 Engine Rebuilding Advice

Hi

I am after a bit of advice about my engine rebuild.

I am rebuilding my 1990 964 C2 engine due to oil leaks and slight cylinder losses.

The strip down is going really well, but in the last two hours I have found two things that are dwelling on my mind.

1. When removing each barrel I have noted a small dent on the O ring seating surface of the crankcase. I know it was not me, as I had not even removed the barrel completely off of the piston when I noticed the first dent. The engine has been apart before I got it. Can this surface be recut, or do you thin the same dents would be sealed by the o ring? The base seals were leaking on bank 4 to 6, but the dents are on all cylinders.

2. On removing my con rods they all have 930 part numbers, not 964! The engine is an L series and the number is 2104, so its not as though it’s a really early engine. Does this matter? Are the small end shells and wrist pin bearings the same? The con rod bolts are marked 12.9, when was the change between 00 and 12.9? I don’t know if they have ever been off before.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Regards
