3.0L cam recommendations

I'm looking for some recommendations. This is a street/autox and 2-3 times a year track car in oregon, hint not much use in the winter.

It's a 2200lb 1972T cpe. I will be swapping my 40mm webers, hyd chain tensioners, European headers and M&K 2in 2out "R" muffler from the current 2.7L I have now.

Our host recommends the "S" or modified "S" (whatever that is) and John Dougherty recommends the DC40.

Anyone with any experience with these applications or something else.

Thanks in advance

+1 on the DC40

I had them in a 3.0 with 46mm PMO's and loved it.

That engine was a little sreamer.

DC40s are a vanilla choice.
I always recommend that sport enthusiasts choose a cam slightly hotter than the spec sheets would suggest. These are small engines in sports cars. Spin the little guys.
Small ports, slightly less compression, lots of cam and lots of ignition timing.
Not once has a customer ever said to me "I wish I put less cam in my motor" but customers quite often tell me the opposite.
Old school, baby.

Just my .02, but "vanilla" cams are better for AX. Mid range grunt is where it's at...with enough top end to pull 6500 to 7000 without a huge drop off.
Solex brand of vanilla in a 2.7L

A couple pulls on the chassis dyno after 30-40 minutes of break in time. The rings were not totally seated till my first AX....1 & 4 joined the party on about its 10th pass.

Sorry bout the lousy copy.

John

What cam would you choose with 40mm webers, 9.5 pistons and headers? Oh and a 915 transmission.

"Back in the day" I both over cammed & over carburated a hot rot engine for what was basically a street car (Chebbie). Lesson learned.

What I would do would be to talk to Steve Weiner and explain your usage.
He gave (& still does whenever I ask) me some good advice. The vanilla motor is the result.
