Engine Smokes on start up?

My 83' 911sc motor was completely rebuilt in may 2007, the motor has 5000 mile on it. When I start up in morning and from time to time it smokes and than gos away? Is this normal and will it ever stop

A puff of bluish smoke on start-up is normal for all horizontally opposed piston engines as the oil collects in the bottoms of the cylinders. The smoke will get better after about 10000 miles as your rings seat and your engine gets worn-in.

I was wondering if a heavier weight oil (= flowing less when cold) would decrease the startup smoke. Has anyone compared, for instance, 10W30 vs 20W50 effect on startup smoke?

So exactly what does..'complete rebuild' mean. I'm interested in what you used for P&C's.

Complete rebuild would be new rings, bearings, gaskets, heads ported/polished,new ss valves, etc, etc. completed by >http://motormeister.com/suz/911_engines/911_engines_3.htm

The best suggestion I can offer would be to have someone perform a leakdown test to see if the rings have seated or not.

Rebuilt by Motormeister??? No wonder it is smoking. Please read all the horror stories about Motormeister on this board. These guys are known to put used parts out of specs in their supposedly rebuilt motors.
