Warmed Over 3.0L - Opinions Wanted

Hey Pelicaners -

Need some input on the following - I have an 83 3.0L small port, high comp, US motor with 30K miles on it. Currently it has the CIS w/O2 setup, SSI exchangers with a B&B muffler. The engine is fresh and runs well.

The 911 is used for DE's and PCA events, but is not a DD.

I recently purchased a Carrera intake setup ( manifolds, injector w/rails, throttle body other bits). I have a desire to MSquirt (both fuel and spark) this mill but have a few questions:

1 Should I take off my heads and port match them to the intake? Everything I have read says yes. I don't like the idea of spacers, because it moving the injector away from the port.

2 What cams can I run with my pistons? What makes sense? 964 cams?

3 I will do the Carrera tensioner upgrade at the same time. Anything to watch for?

4 Is the above porting job something left to the pros or can I do this myself? I have seen a few do it themselves - but I was not sure if it required a mill and fixture, or is hand porting acceptable?

5 I am expecting around 215 hp - is this reasonable?

Any thoughts would be great - but be nice or I will tell your mom.

Cams, ports and exhaust with some clean up of the CIS and you can produce the hp number you quote. Why bother with the Carrera intake for such a small increase in performance?

Thanks for the reply Henry - what would you suggest if I moved my HP target to 230 to 240?

Does STP do head porting?

Cam, intake, engine management suggestions would be great.

Since a 3.2 with a chip and race exhuast can get about 250 HP with the stock air flow meter I bet you can get 230 easily with a better air flow meter and opening the ports to 36-38mm. Spacers will get you a little more torque as well as let you match ports.
