They are basically the same, except for the screen on the intake side. The question you should ask is:

SC/Carrera
Turbo
GT3

I'd probably go with the SC/Carrera unless you are going to race it.

+1 on the 964 Pump. I have one in my '73. You need to machine the case to accept the longer pump and you need to order the shorter aux shaft coupler. Since I purchased my pump and installed it I have been told that the 996 pump is even better...then again how much better does it need to be with a 7R case?

The 964 is magnesium, prone to crack, I wouldn't recommend it

996 is Al, it's a good unit

If you decide on an SC pump, I have a known-good one for sale cheap. I replaced it with a GT3 pump as the engine will be for racing only.

I always had good pressure and flow including through a front cooler with the SC pump.

Here's a link showing whats involved with fitting a non-SC pump (in this case a GT3) into a 7R case. Dont forget you'll need different sized pump-to-intermediate shaft-extensions for different pumps. And different sump pans. And the GT3 sump pan doesnt have a drain plug?!?

The Burn_Bros sump cover is one alternative.

The 3.3 pump is my favorite, truth be told

I have a 3.3 Turbo pump that was just rebuilt by Supertec. Like new.

This is a great pump with one issue. This style pump uses a sump screen that is rare and NLA through Porsche. The last time I had a pump like this one we were forced to scavenge a late attached screen style pick up from a damaged pump. I hope you have the sump screen in your possession before you plan on using this pump.
