ring compressor redux
ok, what style ring compressor will work installing the cylinders over the pistons?
i have the pliers/band type and cannot install the center cylinder on each bank because you cannot remove it (the band) because of interference from the head studs.

I used a Porsche hose clamp (the ones without the little slots cut through) and it worked like a charm. You have to be careful with the ring ends and keep the screw mechanism from scratching the pistons.
Spread a little motor oil on the inside of the clamp. Place the hose clamp over the rings and tighten the clamp just enough to get the rings into the grooves. Watch the bottom ring, it's pretty stiff. Wiggle the piston from side to side and it will go up into the cylinder as the clamp slides off the rings. Unscrew the clamp fully and remove it. Good Luck, Mark
