Case/Crank Work Summary

I've been reading a lot of threads this evening. I want to pull things together for my notes on work I'll have done down the road.

Aluminum Case (plan to build a 3.4/3.5 SS track/race motor)

1) Case Boat tail not needed
2) Case Shuffle Pin. only needed for high RPM, so in this case yes.

The SuperTec crank is a work of art, but not sure I'll have the budget for that

3) Crank knife edge, did not see a clear consesus on this.
3) Crank cross drill yes
4) Crank polish? lighten? crank plugs?

JMHO so here you go,

1)Yessir,..its been worth 10 HP on a 3.4/3.5 for 25+ years as measured on our engine dyno. Thats a must-do for any race engine going over 7K.

2) Engines that will spend time above 7K should be shuffle-pinned.

3) Yes. This is part of an effective windage control system.

4) Yes! Cross-drill the center main to get sufficient oil to the adjacent rod bearings.

5) Each & every crank we do gets magnafluxed, balanced, micro-polished and the oil galley plugs are removed to properly clean out the passages, otherwise you've left all that debris in there.

Hope this helps,
