CMW Heads
Anyone using the CMW D-Port Heads in an N/A application, or were they specific designed for forced induction engines? I have read articles about the 9M heads and the power gains when coupled with proper tuning. While searching the net fighting a bout with insomnia I came across CMW and can't help but seem interested due to their background in the P-Car world.

The finish machine work of CMW heads leaves a little to be desired.

Heads seem to make sense over ~350 or so hp, though I understand engine longevity at those power levels does begin to suffer regardless of what you do. |

I am quite interested in the idea of D shaped ports and I have heard that they work well on 2.0 litre engines but have no experience.
has anyone tried them on early NA motors? |

I use the CMW heads on my 3.2 short stroke. I have seen the older heads (about 4 years ago and they were not that clean as far as machining. The newer ones (at least the set I have) are perfect. And yes they make serious power.

Thanks for all of the replies, I just wanted a non-biased opinion without all of the sales rhetoric. Thats why I love Pelican........

Used the FabSpeed headers for a while. Now have our own installed. Went thru a few design changes, and the final design gained 6hp over the FabSpeed.

Are you marketing these headers? I may be interested for my 3.4.
Cheers

Not at this time. A bit more dyno time on a variety of engine displacements so I can judge specific gains.

This thread started out as an inquiry into CMW heads, then strangely morphed into something about school girls. Could we get back to CMW heads? I for one would like to know what the Pelican brain trust thinks about them. Thanks.

I have had a bunch of customers I have modified their Nickies to run their GT2 sealing rings that are specific to the CMW heads and I have never heard a complaint about them (other than the machining, which was many, many years ago and I have not heard since).

And what is wrong with school girls? (-;
OK, on the CMW side, the problem with getting lots of responses about them is the fact that there aren't lots of them out there. Many people weight the power gain against the $$$$ loss and stick with having work done on thier stock heads. I have over $5000 in my set, but the car is built to run SCCA GT2, and I wanted every possible hp I could find. If you watch the GT2 class during the Runoffs, you'll understand. If you leave anything on the table.....you lose. I did run 2 different sets of pretty tricked out stock heads, and I can tell you that neither set made the usable power and torque that the CMW heads made. |
