turbo rebuilders
I own and maintain an '87 3.3 turbo. I have no way of knowing the status of the engine guts, I purchased over a year ago with 82k miles. It does have a G50 trans, a RUF muffler and it does register 1 bar when the pedal is on the metal. The engine (sometimes) smokes on startup and at full throttle. The interior of the inlet to the intercooler is covered with what appears to be alot of engine oil which leads me to believe the internal oil seals (turbo)are not doing their job. Where else could engine oil be coming from? Has anybody had success with a third party turbo rebuilder, I will not attempt due to the nature of the turbine blades and precision required.
Thanks, John G |

John, there are a few good independent turbo shops around, but not sure you are ready. the seal between the bearing housing and intake is a mechanical seal and it doesn't take a lot to have some oil carry over to the intake. Check breather and make sure your air cleaner is in good shape, if it has too much restriction that can cause a little oil carry over. Check for oil before the turbo too. A good turbo shop will have balancing equipment so make sure you check when you find one to deal with. I'm not sure if the guy is still in Salt Lake City, but think the name was Hi Tech Turbo. He had all the equipment to do it right. Pwner was Stan Wright.
Good luck,

Ask in the Rennlist "911 Turbo" forums, there is a KKK turbo specialist.

John,
Kevin Farrel - Injection Labs (colorado) is very good with 930 engines. Well, NA engines too, but he is REALLY into turbos. angela

As far as an actual turbo rebuild, especially if it's KKK/Borg-Warner, Kevin at Ultimate Motorwerks is an excellent resource.
