Labor time?

Whats a good labor for oil return tubes , the one that expand ?

101 projects, p.76 says 1-2h per side. That is DIY. A pro should be able to both sides in less than 2h. IMHO. I did it, long time ago, cannot remember how long it took me (and I am not a pro anyways...).

to charge a customer on a side job.

If you use expandables as the replacement (you should if not rebuilding), this shouldn't take any competent mechanic more than 1 hour shop time (usually the charge minimum). If getting quoted for more, walk.

Why would this take 4 hours?

I would think about 10-15 minutes. Half of that would be getting the car jacked up or on a lift.

It depends on the car, what HEs on it and if it has air injection in exhaust ports.

cstreit 03-07-2009 02:26 PM

Remember there's an oil-change on this too. ... and often a fair bit of cleaning (hence replacing the tubes). Two hours is fair. ...and with the HE's on some of these can be a REAL bear

For sure, god forbid that the shop that invested thousands in tools and equipment make any type of return. Just working on Porsche's should be an honor that is done for free:rolleyes:

Funny you say that, I do work on Porsches for free. Learn to read further down the post first before you pop off.
