To get the engine # for a VIN you MUST get the COA from PCNA.

Yeah, I was told this. While on early S, one member had built a list of vins with their corresponding engine and trans #'s. I thought I would take a chance.
I found 909018 in good condition long block form minus the cylinders for a good price. Off to Henry at Supertec, well after I work some overtime. Its is heart wrenching to see her in the garage without an engine. I am buying Wayne's engine book today to start my homework. I am sure I will be posting questions once I scour the archives and formulate my game plan. So, thanks for all your patience in advance!

Long live the long hood!!

Yes, that might well be myself with the list, however if you want to know the exact engine that came in the car you will need the COA. Engine #'s bounce around a lot compared to the VIN. If you don't have an S then you would be looking for a serial number like 911684 or higher. If you have 909018 available, then please let me know the build # stamped next to the type # 901/05. If you have a bare case, please tell me the 'matching' numbers on the case halves that indicate they are a paired set.

Thank you for your reply. I saw a thread Grady the listed my # as a 901/05 webers with solex cams, a late 66 build. I found some #s, for the case 901.101.101.01, 901.101.102.01 and on the cam towers 901.105.111.OR
Where would I find 901/05 on the case or is this a reference only
THanks Scott

You are right, my car had no engine and I found the 901/05 the other day. Is there a 901/05 listing on the case anywhere? So much dirt etc. I can not see it

If the engine is type 901/05 serial 909018 then the build # should be 5071. Please check again.
Photos might help; the German 7 & 1 can be easily comfused at times depending on the font.
On the top of the engine where the case halves are bolted together, there is a "pairing number" on each boss. Can you find it also?

You are correct it is 5071. I have been known to be a little dyslexic. The other numbers on top appear to be either 99 or 66. On one of these stampings there appears to be __ directly below. Does this help?
Scott
