997 Gen-2 GT3 engine

You may have already read this:
http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driversrepublic/redraw047/?pm=1&z=fh&pviewh=741&zin=133&u1=texterity&pg=1

Noticed a quote he mentioned?
Quote:
The GT1-derived block is now at its maximum possible bore (102.7mm), and that has meant inserting steel liners to retain strength.
Is that good or bad news? What are the pros and cons of using steel liners? Which 997 GT3 would you buy, Gen-1 or Gen-2?

Also, he mentioned that the pistons, despite being bigger, are now lighter. Does this mean pistons have been shortened and con rods lengthened?
