pitted crankshaft
Can a crankshaft measured within spec except for a tiny shallow pit on the rod bearing surface be used without further grinding? Your opinion, Thanks!

A pit and not a flat spot will simply fill with oil and the metal around it will still support the bearing.

Bruce, thanks! That's what I thought but I need someone with experiences or an engineering background to confirm it.
Now there arises the question of how big a pit can be categorized as a flat spot.

Is it raised at the edges at all?
Take a good macro picture of the pit and post it here with a .044 inch (1mm) drill bit tip next to the pit for comparison. (I used to be a machinist)

Peter, thanks a lot!
Looks like not raised but I'll take a picture after spliting the case. At this moment it's really difficult to get adequate illumination for the pit through the crack of the engine case. I'm still waiting for the cam tool from our host to disassemble the engine.
