Need cam advice?
OK I need new cams (or at least one) as I ate one with a clogged spray bar.
After talking to a few people I have learned that my current cams were reground and poorly. They were GE 40 profile. I have a set of 74 CIS cams as cores and a ful set of rockers, what would you all suggest I do to get my girl back up an running on the lesser expensive side? I have 9.8:1 compression, ported heads and PMO's. I liked the power coming on @ 3-4k but the top end 6500 or so was a wee bit flat. What grind will give me to 7k and come on around the same 3-4k? Should I regrind or buy new? Any good suggestions as where to get the work done? Thank you Josh |
John Dougherty is the person to talk to. Outstanding quality of work and expertise, and he posts on
this board as "camgrinder". http://drcamshafts.com/ http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/474664-camgrinder.html |
I assume that you read this thread that 911st bumped up recently. It contains most of what I learned when trying to research the answer to the same sort of question that you are asking.

74 CIS cams aren't suitable for the regrind
Have John make you some new "mod-solex" cams. |

Josh, I got your message and I will give you a call tomorrow. Sounds like the original cams were not GE40 grinds. John Cramers suggestion on the mod-solex ( DC30 ) is a good one. These cams will give you a strong mid range powerband and still pull to 7000 rpm.
You can also fill out this form so I have all the details on your combination, http://www.drcamshafts.com/caminfo.htm |
