Early Alum. Case w/ Pressure fed tensioner. Adapter?!?

Hi All,

I was rebuilding my 2.7 on a mag case when I noticed the substantial crack in the case. I replaced it with an early aluminum one per most peoples recommendation. I was told that "they're the same but the alum is better"

after numerous fitment issues and differences between the mag and alum case, I have found another. The carrera tensioner feed line that screws into the case on the right side, just below the fan, doesn't fit. The hole in the case is too small or the feed line is just too big!!, Its almost complete now so I REALLY don't wanna take it all apart to re-tap that oil hole. Although I almost should as I could then open up the distributor hole as the one I have doesn't fit. One last question. If I machine the dizzy down to the little step-up line, will it be at the correct depth to mesh with the gear?
To recap, 1) anyone know if there is an adapter available for the oil pressure line for the cam tower/tensioners and 2) if I machine my later dizzy down to the same depth that it was originally made for, will it work ok?
Thanks in advance....its been a long strange trip.
Nabil

Nabil, welcome the land of supercede Porsche parts with no explanation! Fortunately I have been down this road before.

In an aluminum case engine, the "intermediate piece" is the NLA case-to-cam-oil-line fitting called 901 107 375 00. In the old engines this is an 1/8" NPT to M12x1.0 fitting. The "new" version of the same part number is an M12x1.0 on both ends, no way it's ever fitting in the case.

Solution: Get one out of a junk engine. Or reach out to Tom Butler (Tom1394Racing) as I'm sure he has a few.

Hey john, thanks for the heads up!! You would probably know the answer to my second question too!! are the distributors the same length? do I just turn the dizzy shaft down right up to that step up in diameter above the o-ring? Just wanna make sure it rides the gear correctly. I figure I'll have to replace the stud in the case with a longer one and put a spacer underneath it so it doesn't torque cockeyed in its hole.

Garage
Send a message via AIM to YTNUKLR
get one from Tom if you can

just FYI, the later ones (right) can be machined down and rethreaded to the 1/8" NPT size
